El-Kanemi Warriors secured their third Nigerian Federation Cup title with a 2-0 victory over Abia Warriors in the final played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nasiru Salisu was the hero for El-Kanemi, scoring twice to seal the win. Although he missed a penalty in the ninth minute, Salisu opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark and doubled the lead 15 minutes from time.
This was El-Kanemi’s first major title in 32 years and their first cup final appearance in 23 years. Abia Warriors, who were in their first-ever cup final, struggled to match the experience of the Maiduguri club.
El-Kanemi Warriors will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season as part of their reward. They also received a cash prize of N50 million, while runners-up Abia Warriors were awarded N20 million.
Rivers Angels emerged victorious in the Women’s President Federation Cup final, defeating Naija Ratels 1-0 earlier on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Blessing Okpe scored the decisive goal from a penalty awarded in first-half stoppage time.
This win marks Rivers Angels’ ninth Federation Cup title and ends a six-year drought since their last victory in 2018.
