Report: Super Lig giants Galatasaray begin talks to sign Nigerian striker

Reigning Turkish champions Galatasaray have opened talks with Lyon for the signing of former Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban, Soccernet.ng reports.

Lyon have had a decent season with coach Pierre Sage in charge, but Orban has not benefitted much, as he has registered just five appearances this season.

Orban’s struggles at Lyon in recent months have made him a candidate to leave the club. This is especially as the club are desperate to sell players to balance their books.

Orban has already been linked to German Bundesliga clubs RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, and Stuttgart. However Turkish giants Galatasaray could outpace them.

According to Turkish reporter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Trabzonspor have opened talks with Lyon for Orban’s signature.

Due to the 22-year-old’s lack of game time, Galatasaray could push for the deal during the January transfer window.

Recall that the Lions will be without the services of their star striker Mauro Icardi till the end of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Also, Victor Osimhen is expected to leave them at the end of the campaign. So, Orban could be a very good replacement.

Over the last few months, Orban’s value has dropped to €10 million according to Transfermarkt data. This is a fee that Galatasaray would be able to afford.
