Reports indicating the postponement of the much-anticipated 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament have been debunked by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Soccernet.ng reports.
Initially scheduled for the summer of 2025, rumours circulated about a potential postponement due to scheduling conflicts with the new version of the FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the United States.
However, CAF has clarified that there are no plans to postpone the AFCON tournament, the body’s Executive Committee will convene to discuss AFCON 2025 dates, followed by an official statement from CAF.
“Reports on AFCON 2025 are untrue. The CAF Executive Committee will meet, deliberate and make a decision on the AFCON 2025 dates. CAF will thereafter issue official statement on the matter.” as written by CAF on their official X (formerly Twitter) page.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria, under the leadership of Finidi George, continue their preparations for the 2025 AFCON, aiming to build on their silver medal finish in the previous edition.
The previous tournament held in Cote d’Ivoire sparked different skills by talented players across the world, the Ivoirean determination to scoop the trophy despite their poor start, and much more.
The upcoming tournament has been anticipated to be better than the previous one despite a pending statement by the African football body on the new date.
