The football star, born and raised in Switzerland by a Nigerian father and Swiss mother, currently plays for Switzerland’s national team at the international level.

In a recent interview, Akanji discussed his strong connection to his Nigerian roots and his love for Nigerian music.

Talking about the role of music in football and his favorite artists, Akanji said “My favorite artist is Burna Boy. I spoke to him after the Champions League final. I love listening to Afrobeats, so I would say him”.

The 28-year-old further confirmed Afrobeats as his preferred genre, stating “If I put music on, it would be mostly Afrobeats and some rap”.

Despite growing up in Switzerland, Akanji has remained proud of his Nigerian heritage and has expressed his desire to help underprivileged kids fulfil their dreams.
