Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has tipped Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior to win the Ballon d’Or after his superb performance in their dramatic 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Vinicius has been important for Real Madrid all season, with 21 goals and 11 assists in 36 appearances for Los Blancos. He continued with his impressive performances on Wednesday, when Real Madrid welcomed Bayern Munich to the Santiago Bernabeu. The game looked like it had slipped away from Real Madrid after Alphonso Davies scored in the 68th minute.
However, the 14-time Champions showed class, scoring two late goals within three minutes to ensure that it ended in their favour. Joselu scored the two goals, but it was Vinicius’ constant forrays in Bayern Munich’s area that catalyzed Bayern Munich’s defence and kept them under pressure. The Brazilian recorded six goal attempts, 58 touches, seven dribbles, and two key passes.
After the game, it was no surprise that Vinicius won the man of the match award despite not registering a goal or assist.
Former Nigeria coach, Oliseh was quite impressed with Vinicius, and he took to social media to share his elation with the 23-year-old.
“Wow! Extraordinary Ballon D’or worthy Vinicius jr, extraordinary coach Carlo Ancelotti, and an absolute top Real Madrid! Turned defeat to legendary victory in three minutes. I love Real’s non-stop variety football philosophy. A tactical blast watching Real Beat Bayern Munich,” Oliseh wrote.
Real Madrid will take on another German side Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley on June 1.
