Confirmed: Victor Osimhen joins Inter Milan, Juventus, AC Milan stars in Serie A Team of the Season

The Nigeria international endured a mixed campaign with Napoli but still did just enough to be recognised among the league's best

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been included in the 2023/24 Serie A Team of the Season, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen made the 23-man list unveiled on the official social media channels of the Italian Serie A on Saturday.

The Nigerian forward was the talk of the town last year when he scored for fun to power Napoli to the club’s first Scudetto title in over three decades.

However, Napoli failed woefully in their bid to retain the league title this season, losing 11 times and winning only 13 of 37 league games to sit in 10th place heading to the last match of the season.

Despite Napoli’s struggles and his participation at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen still managed to put together impressive numbers.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year scored 15 goals and assisted another three in only 24 Serie A games for Napoli.

Interestingly, only Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez (24 goals) and Juventus’s Dušan Vlahović (16) scored more goals than Osimhen in the Italian topflight.

Both Martínez and Vlahović are named to the Serie Team of the Season alongside Osimhen for their contributions.

Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze misses out but his AC Milan teammates Christian Pulisic, Theo Hernandez, Olivier Giroud, and Rafael Leao join Osimhen on the prestigious list.

Osimhen’s Napoli teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also gets a look in.

This season could be Osimhen’s last in Italy as the 25-year-old striker looks set to seek a new challenge in England, with Chelsea and Arsenal the frontrunners for his signature.
