Trabzonspor identify Ex-Manchester United star as possible Onuachu replacement

Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor have identified former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst as a potential replacement for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu, Soccernet.ng reports.

Onuachu has been brilliant for Trabzonspor since his season-long loan transfer from Southampton. The Nigeria striker has registered nine goals and three assists in 19 appearances for the Trabzonspor.

His loan deal is supposed to expire at the end of the season, but due to his impressive performances, there have been strong talks that Trabzonspor want to keep him. In fact, in a recent report, the President of the Turkish club revealed that they want to keep Onuachu. However, the major limitation is Southampton’s possible €12-15 million transfer fee, which is a lot of money for most Turkish clubs.

Nonetheless, both parties could still reach an agreement for another loan deal when the current deal expires.

However, in case the deal does not work out, according to Fanatik, Trabzonspor are already looking at signing Weghorst from Hoffenheim, as he will come at a lower price. The Dutch striker has produced six goals and two assists from 24 Bundesliga games, and may not cost up to €9 million.

Onuachu has been injured since the start of March, but he is billed to make his return in Trabzonspor’s next match against Kayserispor on Saturday. The club currently sit third in the Super Lig, with 52 points after 32 games, and they will be looking to finish the campaign on a high in their last six games.
