Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi could return to action for Nottingham Forest before the end of the season, Soccernet.ng reports.
Awoniyi has been an important player for Nottingham since he arrived from Union Berlin two years ago. However, he has struggled with injuries in his two seasons.
Last season, the 25-year-old striker registered 27 appearances in the Premier League, missing eleven games because of injury. However, his late spur at the end of the season that saw him register six goals in his last four games, ensured that he helped Nottingham Forest escape relegation.
Unfortunately, the injuries have persisted this season, as the Nigeria international struggled at the start of the campaign but still conjured three goals in his first three appearances.
Since then, Awoniyi’s availability has been under probability, as the Nigeria international has consistently struggled with fitness issues. It got to a head in November when he was ruled out of action because of a muscle injury.
That ruled Awoniyi out of action for over two months, and he only returned in late January. However, the Nigeria international is not past injuries, as he has been sidelined for the Trick Trees’ last three games.
Nonetheless, in a new development per FFScout, Awoniyi may be close to a comeback, as they report that the Nigerian has returned to training. Still, Nottingham are yet to reveal Awoniyi’s return date.
Coach Nuno Espirito de Santo would be hoping that Awoniyi will return to action before the end of the season to help the Tricky Trees avoid relegation.
