Premier League: Nigeria star Frank Onyeka scores first-ever goal for Brentford in victory over Sheffield United

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka scored his first-ever goal for Brentford in their 2-0 win over Sheffield United at the Brentford Community Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.

Brentford welcomed Sheffield United in their Premier League clash on Saturday. The Bees were winless in their last nine games and needed to return to winning ways against the Blades, who needed a result to keep their hopes of remaining in the Premier League alive.

Brentford boss Thoma Frank started Nigeria international Onyeka from the bench, opting for a three-man midfield. The first half ended goalless, but the game sparked to life in the second half.

The Bees got ahead in the 64th minute courtesy of an own goal from Ollie Arblaster. Five minutes later, Mikkel Damsgaard scored, but the goal was ruled out because of a foul in the build-up.

The game was pretty balanced, albeit Sheffield United were pushing for the equalizer. In a bid to hold on to their lead and control the game, Brentford boss Frank introduced Onyeka into the game in the 90th minute.

Just three minutes and two touches later, Onyeka scored the second goal for Brentford. The Nigeria international got on the end of a smart pass from Kevin Schade and placed a precise finish into Sheffield United’s goal.

Aside from sealing the 2-0 win for Brentford, the goal was also significant because it was Onyeka’s first goal for Brentford in 74 appearances.
