Trabzonspor President Ertugrul Dogan has confirmed that he wants Paul Onuachu to remain at the club, albeit on another season-long loan deal, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onuachu joined Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor from Southampton last summer after a failed first six months in England. The 29-year-old failed to make a mark with the Saints who got relegated from the Premier League last season, and had to get another club to get more playing time.
Since his transfer to Turkey, Onuachu has been brilliant for Trabzonspor. The Nigeria international has registered nine goals and three assists in 17 appearances, forming an important part of the club’s attack.
The fans have also accepted him swiftly, as Nigerian players like Anthony Nwakaeme have delivered for them in recent history.
Owing to Onuachu’s performances, there have been a lot of talks concerning his future, and in a new development per Transfermarkt, the president of Trabzonspor has revealed that they want to keep the big Nigerian striker.
However, they want another season-long loan deal because they cannot afford to pay for a permanent deal. Onuachu is 29, and Southampton could demand up to €15 million, a fee that most Turkish clubs cannot afford.
Both parties are yet to reach an agreement, but it is unlikely that Onuachu will return to Southampton because he is not assured of playing time. As such, he would fancy another transfer. If Southampton get a good bid from another club, Onuachu may not be playing his football at Trabzon next season.
