Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi scored for OGC Nice in their 2-2 draw against Marseile in their Ligue 1 fixture at the Stade Velodrome, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nice returned to Ligue 1 action with a tough tie against French giants Marseille. The Eagles needed a good result against Marseile to keep their hopes of qualifiying for the UEFA Champions League alive.
Nigerian striker Moffi was in the lineup for the Eagles, and he was looking to add to his goal tally.
The Super Eagles star got yellow-carded in the first 11 minutes for a poor foul. But two minutes later, the Nigerian international scored. Moffi latched onto a through pass from the midfield, and sent a low strike into the net to make it 1-0 in Nice’s favour. However, Nice’s joy was cut short 18 minutes later, as Jonathan Clauss scored the equalizer in the 30th minute.
Nice got an advantage just before the end of the first half, as Faris Moumbagna got sent off after a second red card.
Unfortunately for Nice, they failed to use the advantage, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored for Marseille in the 56th minute to make it 2-1. Nigerian striker Moffi was taken off for Evan Guessand in the 57th minute after he had recorded three goal attempts and 14 touches. Moffi’s performance was just a tad below his usual level on the night.
Nice did get their equalizer in 72nd minute through Melvin Bard, and it ended 2-2 at the Velodrome. With the result, Nice now sit fifth, five points away from the final Champions position.
