Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze continues to be the gift that keeps on giving for Villarreal, as the Spanish club anticipates more financial rewards following his stellar performances at AC Milan, Soccernet.ng reports.
Chukwueze, who made the switch from Villarreal to AC Milan last summer for a hefty €19.5 million fee, with additional bonuses totaling €8.5 million, has proven to be a valuable asset for his new club.
During his six-year tenure at Villarreal, Chukwueze played a pivotal role in their success, notably clinching the Europa League title.
The Spanish club made a significant profit from his transfer, having initially acquired him from Nigeria’s Diamond Academy for a mere €500,000.
Since he arrived in Milan, Chukwueze has showcased his talent in 25 appearances across various competitions, including Serie A, the Champions League, the Europa League, and the Coppa Italia. He has three goals and one assist to his name.
In a standout performance on Saturday, Chukwueze played a key role in AC Milan’s 2-1 away victory over Fiorentina, further solidifying their second-place position in the league standings, trailing behind leaders Inter Milan.
With a comfortable six-point lead over third-placed Juventus, Milan’s aspirations for the season are well within reach.
Reports suggest that Chukwueze’s impressive displays have triggered performance-related bonuses for his former club, Villarreal.
According to Italian insider Matteo Moretto, Villarreal CF is set to receive an additional €1.5 million at the end of the season as a result of Chukwueze’s achievements.
The transfer agreement between Villarreal and AC Milan included various bonuses tied to both the player’s individual performance and the club’s success.
Chukwueze’s contributions on the field have met the criteria for activating these bonuses, much to the delight of Villarreal.
Villarreal will be guaranteed an additional €2.5 million and €3 million in added bonuses should AC Milan win the Serie A and Champions League titles with Chukuweze.
Both titles are off the table this season as AC Milan are 14 points behind Inter in the Scudetto race while they have been knocked out of the Champions League into the Europa League.
Chukwueze will look to be more involved when AC Milan continue their quest to qualify for the continent’s premier club competition next term.
Stefano Pioli’s men take on Lecce at San Siro by 2 pm on Saturday.

Contrary to your assertion, Chukwueze's displays for Milan have been very far from impressive. The coach, football director and pundits have variously asked for him to step up his game. Pulisic is preferred to him on the flank. Chukwueze, frankly, has not improved the standard of his game for the past five years and is at risk of not fulfilling his potential, sadly. Just as he is also underperforming for the Super Eagles which has been providing him with a support platform which might soon be withdrawn. He was anonymous at the last AFCON.
