The Super Eagles camp in Morocco is open ahead of Nigeria’s double-headed friendlies with Ghana and Mali slated for March, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigeria will face off with Ghana’s Black Stars at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco on the 22nd of March.
It would be the first encounter between the two eternal rivals since Ghana edged out Nigeria in the playoffs for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Four days later (March 26th), the Super Eagles will lock wings with Mali’s Eagles inside the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.
The Nigeria Football Federation invited 27 players for these two encounters, ten of whom have reported to camp at press time on Tuesday, March 19th.
The first players to arrive in camp are Glasgow Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers, Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella, Hatayspor’s Fisayo Bashiru, and Cardiff City’s Jamilu Collins.
All five players were not in the Nigerian squad that reached the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire last month.
Six other players who were silver medalists at the AFCON have also breezed into camp.
Fulham duo of Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi have walked into camp together with West Brom defender Semi Ajayi, Nantes winger Moses Simon, and Boavista’s Bruno Onyemaechi.
Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who was one of Nigeria’s most outstanding performers in Cote d’Ivoire, has found his way from his base in South Africa to Morocco.
Three players invited for the Ghana and Mali games have confirmed they will not be a part of the camping in Morocco.
Serie A champions Napoli have asked that Victor Osimhen be excused as he recovers from a slight knock.
Injuries have also knocked out Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi and Luton Town defender Gabriel Osho, who was earning his first international call-up.
