Nigeria-eligible midfielder Michael Folorunsho is expected to be integrated into Napoli’s squad when his season-long loan deal at Hellas Verona expires in the summer, Soccernet.ng reports.
Folorunsho joined Napoli from Virtus Francavilla in a deal worth €1 million in 2019. But since then, he has not been able to settle down at the club. The 26-year-old midfielder has had Bari, Reggina, and Pordenone before his current loan deal at Hellas Verona.
This season, Folorunsho has been impressive. He has registered four goals and one assist in 26 appearances for Hellas Verona, and they currently sit 14th in the Serie A.
With his performances this season, there has been a lot of talk about Folorunsho’s future, as his loan expires this season, but he still has three years left on his Napoli contract.
In a new development per Napoli Magazine, Folorunsho is expected to return to Napoli at the end of his deal and get integrated into the team. According to the report, the Nigeria-eligible midfielder will play a more important role for the Partenopeans next season.
The Partenopeans are looking to add some quality to the team after their abysmal title defence, and Folorunsho could come in handy with his versatility, especially as he had gained Serie A experience from playing for Hellas Verona. Also, he was recently called up to the Italian senior team.
Nonetheless, if Folorunsho does not get capped for Italy in this international break, there is a chance that he can still play for Nigeria if he decides to switch allegiances.
