“He has to be ready”- Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney advises Awoniyi on how to get better

Awoniyi have not found the net in his last three games, and Rooney has shared tips on how he can get better

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has advised Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi to work on his positioning so he will get better chances to score, Soccernet.ng reports.

Awoniyi has been Nottingham Forest’s first-choice striker this season. He had a good start to the campaign, scoring four goals in his first ten Premier League appearances. Unfortunately, he sustained a thigh injury that kept him out of action from last November to January this year.

Since he returned to action, Awoniyi has scored twice in eight games for the Tricky Trees. One of the games that the 26-year-old hitman failed to score was an FA Cup loss to Manchester United last week.

Rooney, who made his legend at Manchester United and scored 208 Premier League in his playing days, has advised Awoniyi on how he can get more goals.

“As a forward, if you put yourself in the middle of the goal, you will get chances,” he said, per Nottingham Post.

“He needs to take a little bit more care and perhaps make the extra pass, but he will get better opportunities.

“He has to be ready when those chances come. If he progresses to a bigger club, he will have to be taking those chances.”

Nottingham Forest currently sit 17th in the Premier League, four points above the relegation zone with eleven games left. It was around this time that Awoniyi started scoring goals aplenty last season.

The Nigerian striker could yet again replicate that form and help the Tricky Trees finish the season well.
