Transfers: Saudi Arabian clubs monitoring Super Eagles stand-in captain following brilliant AFCON displays

The former Watford star has been impressive for the Super at the AFCON, and his performances have caught the attention of some Saudi clubs

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has emerged as a transfer target for some Saudi Arabian clubs following his displays at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.

Before the AFCON, it seemed like Troost-Ekong’s time in the national team was done, as coach Jose Peseiro did not play for the team for over six months.

However, he returned to the first team in this year’s AFCON, and he has been a stalwart for the team. The 30-year-old has played five of Nigeria’s six games in the AFCON and has two goals to his name. He also scored in Nigeria’s penalty shoot-out win against South Africa on Wednesday.

Troost-Ekong has been one of Nigeria’s standout performers and he has attracted interest from abroad. According to Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, some Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in signing Troost-Ekong.
