FAF appoints Petkovic, NFF offer: What is Jose Peseiro’s contract situation?

The contract situation between the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and Jose Peseiro has become a subject of discussion as the Super Eagles gear up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June, Soccernet.ng reports.

The question of whether Peseiro will continue as the manager of the Nigerian national team or depart has sparked debates among the Nigerian football community.

With his contract set to end today, the Super Eagles are officially without a coach, and a decision on Peseiro or a new coach must be made as soon as possible.

Today, the Algerian Football Federation, among the suitors vying for the Portuguese gaffer’s signature, has secured a deal with Swiss manager Vladimir Petkovic.

On the other hand, reports have revealed that the Nigerian football body has tabled an offer for Jose Peseiro, amidst offers from other suitors.

In the new contract, it has been reported that the NFF is looking to continue with his pay cut of $50,000, instead of his regular salary of $70,000.

However, Soccernet.ng can confirm that there is a reported debate within the NFF board regarding retaining the former Sporting CP manager, as some sections want him to continue and help the team earn a World Cup ticket.

Others feel he has not done enough despite guiding the Super Eagles team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they suffered a 2-1 loss to Cote d’Ivoire.

The Nigerian national team is expected to play during the upcoming international break window, and they are slated to face El Salvador, along with another team, after their match against Argentina was canceled.
