The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been slated to tackle Cameroon after progressing from Group A at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament
One-capped Super Eagles midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf, and vice-captain William Troost-Ekong have returned to training after missing several Africa Cup of Nations matches, as reported by Soccernet.ng.
The Royale Antwerp midfielder, suffered a knock during the opening clash against Equatorial Guinea, which kept him out of subsequent matches like the two victories against 2023 AFCON host, Ivory Coast, as well as Guinea-Bissau.
In his absence, players like Frank Onyeka, Joe Aribo, and Alex Iwobi stepped up to manage the midfield against Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau, resulting in two victories for the 2013 AFCON champions.
The PAOK defender, Troost-Ekong, scoring from the penalty spot, played a crucial role in Nigeria’s victory against Côte d’Ivoire, but had to train separately before the Guinea-Bissau clash after picking up an injury.
However, recent photos from their training sessions reveal both Yusuf and Troost-Ekong back with the team, signalling positive news for the Super Eagles.
Their return raises hopes for the Nigerian squad as they gear up for the Round of 16 clash, aiming for victory in the knockout stage. The Super Eagles are set to face their rivals in what promises to be an intense encounter.
