Official: Award-winning Super Falcons star becomes first Nigerian international to sign for Juventus

The Italian giants have sealed the capture of one of the brightest youngsters in Nigerian football

With a statement on their official website, Juventus have announced the signing of Nigerian forward Jennifer Echegini, Soccernet.ng reports.

The groundbreaking move makes Echegini the first Super Falcons star to join the prestigious Italian club.

Echegini has signed a two-and-half-year contract, which extends until 30 June 2026, and she will don the coveted number 26 shirt.

Born in 2001 in England, has carved her path as a standout midfielder and is the latest addition to Joe Montemurro’s Juventus Women’s team.

Arriving from Florida, USA, the Super Falcons midfielder was a key player for the Florida State Seminoles for the past two years.

Echegini’s achievements in the United States are underscored by notable statistics and awards.

Most recently, she stood among the finalists for the MAC Hermann, the pinnacle honour in US university football.

Adding to her accolades, she secured the Honda Sport Award for women’s football in December. Her stellar performances earned her the titles of ACC Tournament MVP, “ACC Offensive Player of the Year,” and a place on the “United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American.”

Closing out 2023 with an impressive tally of 16 goals, Echegini secured the eighth-best result in her university’s history.

Interestingly, she became the first among the Florida State Seminoles to achieve double figures in goals for multiple seasons since Deyna Castellanos, who now dons the number 10 jersey at Manchester City.

Echegini was a member of the Super Falcons squad to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where Nigeria reached the knockout rounds without losing a game in regulation time.
