Victor Osimhen didn’t feature in Nigeria’s friendly game against Guinea yesterday as the Super Eagles conceded two goals, with Moses Simon missing a crucial penalty.
Former Arsenal and Togo striker, Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor, has tipped Super Eagles and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen, to make a move to the English Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen, 25, had a stellar year with Napoli, winning the Scudetto for the Italian side, alongside several individual awards that saw him secure 8th place in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
Adebayor, in his playing days, featured for several top clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Monaco and Real Madrid, scoring over two hundred goals.
With his vast wealth of experience, Adebayor scooped the CAF Player of the Year Award in 2008, defeating Egypt’s Mohammed Aboutrika, and Ghana’s Michael Essien.
Victor Osimhen took the same award home last year, and Adebayor was filled with praise for the Nigerian forward, urging him to make a move to the most competitive league in the world.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Sport Africa, 39-year-old Adebayor believes Osimhen has all it takes to succeed in the Premier League.
“He has the right attitude, mentality and determination to excel there in England, I’m praying for him to move to the Premier League and show what he’s capable of,” the former Monaco forward said.
Osimhen has been a vocal admirer of Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, and Adebayor urged the Napoli forward to write a great chapter in his football career by imitating his idol
“He has done it already in Italy, I think it is the right time for him to move to England and replace his idol Drogba and do beautiful things. He has all it takes to make a name and write a great chapter in England like Drogba,” Adebayor added.
The Napoli striker has a hundred and thirty million euros release clause in his newly signed contract, with Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly interested in his services, it is looking increasingly likely that Osimhen’s future lies away from Italy.
