Victor Boniface picked up a muscle tendon injury in his right adductor that’ll keep him out of action for the African Cup of Nations tournament.
Super Eagles and Bayer 04 Leverkusen striker, Victor Okoh Boniface, has been nominated for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award for the fifth time, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface, 23, has been in fine form for Die Werkself all season, consistently putting in stellar performances at the Bay Arena and away from home, and has led Xabi Alonso’s men to the top of the Bundesliga table.
In fifteen starts in the league, the Nigerian forward has scored ten goals and created another seven, showing his creativity as well as his goal-scoring prowess.
With him in the side, Leverkusen have scored 81 goals across all competitions this season, and are yet to be beaten.
Since joining the team from Belgian side, Union Saint-Gilloise, Boniface has been nominated for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award four times, and he took the award home on four occasions.
The 1.91m tall striker has been nominated for the fifth time running, alongside RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and S.C. Freiburg’s Merlin Röhl.
As well as three goals last month, Boniface laid on another two for teammates. No player league-wide matched his five direct goal involvements in December.
The Leverkusen striker will miss the AFCON tournament and will be out of action for close to four months after picking up an adductor injury just two days ago.
