“Drogba behaved like a woman”- Chelsea legend Mikel reveals how Ex-Ivory Coast striker prepared for big games

Drogba is one of the greatest to come out of Africa, and he had a unique mentality in his playing days

Former Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi has revealed that retired Ivorian striker Didier Drogba only looked forward to playing the big games when he was at Chelsea, Soccernet.ng reports.

Drogba was one of the best and most accomplished strikers in the world during his days. The Ivorian forward spent eight years at Chelsea and was quite successful. He won everything possible in London- the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and the Champions League in his final season.

Drogba was known for his power play- a quality that is mirrored by Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen. The Ivorian was also very consistent, turning up consistently for Chelsea on the biggest stages.

Ex-Nigeria international Mikel, who worked with Drogba at Chelsea, has opened up on the Ivorian’s mentality, especially when they had big games.

“Drogba loves the big games; he was a guy who enjoyed it,” Mikel said on the ObiOne Podcast.

“When it was the little games, like when you’re playing the FA Cup or playing against small clubs like Stoke or other small clubs, Drogba never wanted to play those games.

“For him, it was the big games. The big games were what he lived for- the Champions League nights, Manchester United and Liverpool, that’s where you see a Didier Drogba.

“From that week, on a Monday leading up to the weekend on Saturday, you can see his mood, you can feel that he’s engaged. He wants those games; he wants the challenge because he knows that the manager will turn on him because the manager will say that he will win the game for us.

“He loves a little bit of attention; Didier behaves like a woman. You pamper him, give him a lot of attention, and he produces. But he was always there for us in the big games.

Drogba made 254 appearances for Chelsea, and he registered 104 goals and 64 assists during his stay at the club.
