AFCON 2023: “The boys are hungry”- Semi Ajayi sends warning to Angola ahead of QF clash

The Super Eagles claimed a big win against Cameroon on Saturday, and they will be looking to beat Angola and qualify for the next round

Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has stated that the team is looking forward to a victory when they play Angola in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria defeated close rivals Cameroon 2-1 in the round of 16 of the AFCON on Saturday. Jose Peseiro’s lads put up a strong performance to ensure they emerged winners.

Their win ensured that they got a date with Angola in the quarter-finals of the competition. The Palancas Negras themselves have been good so far. They also claimed a big 3-0 against Namibia in the round of 16.

Ahead of the game against Angola, Ajayi, who has been a stalwart in the Super Eagles’ defence, has stated that the team will not lose focus despite their progress at the AFCON.

“The focus turns towards Friday and towards the next game. This game is done, and now we put our full focus towards Friday,” Ajayi told Soccernet.ng.

“The boys are hungry, we are looking to give our all, and we are really looking forward to the game.

So, now we’ll start to study our opponents, start to analyze how they play and form our game plan. Hopefully, that will get us the win on Friday.”

Going into the game on Friday, Nigeria are favourites because of their quality on paper. However, this AFCON has proven to be a tough one, and if Nigeria snooze, they could be shocked.
