Can new NNL side 1472 FC survive the ‘fraud’ allegations against founder Dozy Mmuobosi?

Dozy Mmobuosi who was earlier close to a takeover of Sheffield United was accused of fraud by United States Securities and Exchange Commission

A senior member of the 1472 FC board,Ebuwa Martins, has affirmed that the newly established Nigeria National League club will continue to operate despite connections to Dozy Mmobuosi amidst alleged fraud charges, Soccernet.ng reports.

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently filed charges against the Nigerian businessman and his companies, implicating them in a significant fraud scheme.

Amid these allegations, speculations arose linking the Lagos-based football club to the situation, raising concerns about the club’s stability moving forward.

In response, the Vice President of the club’s board reassured Soccernet.ng that the team’s future remains secure, emphasizing that the club operates under a board and is not solely reliant on one individual.

He highlighted the legal process, noting that accusations alone do not signify guilt, and only a court of law can determine innocence or culpability.

“The club will continue to exist. The club is being run by the board. Not just one person alone. And moreover, it would not affect the club,

“Mind you, it is just an accusation. It is only the court of law that can prove whether he is innocent or not. And again, Nigerians are not familiar with law suits, in America, anybody can sue you. So it’s a normal thing in America. But in this part of the world, when we hear lawsuit, we see it as a big deal. It is not a criminal issue, it’s just a lawsuit.” Ebuwa told Soccernet.ng.

Despite the outside speculation, 1472 FC currently holds the 8th position in Group A standings of the NNL, with two losses, one draw, and two victories in their last five matches, including a recent 2-nil defeat to Beyond Limits FC and a 1-nil loss to Madiba.
