Deja vu? Roberto Calenda rejects Osimhen-Cavani contract comparison

Confederation of African Football Player Of The Year for the year 2023, Victor Osimhen, has recently signed a new contract with Napoli

Victor Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, firmly dismissed any comparisons between a contract renewal for the Nigerian forward and the previous situation with former Napoli player Edison Cavani, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Uruguayan forward, Cavani, was frequently linked with a departure from the Diego Maradona Stadium during his tenure at Gli Azzurri. However, he put an end to the speculations by signing a new five-year contract with Napoli in 2012.

In the following year, despite attracting attention from several European clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester City due to his impressive performances, Cavani acknowledged he would entertain offers to leave Napoli. Eventually, he moved on to Paris Saint-Germain.

Recent rumours have hinted at a similar situation for the Super Eagles forward who recently extended his contract with Napoli until 2026.

However, Calenda refuted these speculations, asserting Osimhen’s contentment at Napoli, and thereby dismissing any notions of interest from Chelsea or other European clubs.

Victor is fine in Naples and wants to take him as high as possible. He has always said and demonstrated it on the field. We have just closed a very important renewal in the history of Italian football. Let’s enjoy it. And it shows that certain narratives were wrong.” Calenda stated, as quoted by Tutto Napoli.

Despite the contract renewal, reports revealed that Chelsea will be looking to table an offer in the coming summer transfer window in 2024.
