Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted claims about a circulating Super Eagles jersey design, Soccernet.ng reports.
Initial excitement among Nigerian football fans over a potential new jersey was short-lived as the NFF swiftly released a statement debunking the creation of a new kit.
The purported home jersey displayed Nigeria’s signature green and white colour scheme, garnering attention after it was shared by a Ghanaian-based designer known for creating kits for various countries.
However, the buzz among fans anticipating the Super Eagles’ new look for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations was quashed.
Super Eagles media officer, Femi Raji, clarified to Soccernet.ng that any official news regarding a new jersey launch would be announced by the NFF. He explained that jersey updates are part of a regular, annual process.
“If there’s news about a new jersey, the NFF will make the announcement. The process of designing new jerseys is a yearly thing,” Raji stated.
The NFF has publicly declared that the viral jersey making the rounds is inauthentic, releasing a statement to dismiss the rumours.
The statement asserts, “Rumours about a new jersey launch between NIKE and the senior Men’s National team circulating round social media has been brought to our notice. We want to inform the general public that this claim is not true. At the moment, we have no jersey being launched for the Super Eagles for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to hold in Côte d’Ivoire next month.”
Ahead of the AFCON tournament, the Super Eagles are set to hold a preparatory camp in Saudi Arabia before heading to Côte d’Ivoire.
