Super Eagles forward eye first minutes in West Brom vs Ipswich clash after three-month injury layoff

Since moving to West Bromwich Albion from France in the summer, the Super Eagles forward has not yet scored a goal

One-time capped Super Eagles forward, Josh Maja, is poised to make his comeback for West Bromwich Albion following a three-month absence due to injury, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former Bordeaux forward had been sidelined for eight weeks after sustaining ankle ligament damage in the dying moments of a 0-0 draw against Bristol City back in September.

Today, the Nigerian talent finds himself named among the substitutes as Carlos Corberan’s squad prepares to host Ipswich Town at the Hawthorns Stadium this Saturday.

Speaking about Maja’s return and the potential boost to their squad against the visiting team, the Spanish manager, Carlos Corberan, highlighted the increased attacking options.

“We’re stronger with everyone available and ready to compete. We’ll assess John Swift and Josh Maja’s readiness based on this week’s training before deciding on Saturday’s game,” he stated.

Corberan further emphasised that the selection would hinge upon the players’ physical condition and response to training throughout the week.

“Our decision will be based on their physical condition and how they’ve coped with the week’s training. I’m optimistic about both players, though,” he added.

It’s hoped that Maja has fulfilled all requirements to make the team for the Championship clash, and the Nigerian forward eagerly anticipates his first minutes since his absence in September.

Since his move from France to England in the summer, the former Stoke City forward has yet to find the net and will be aiming for his debut goal for the club.
