An anterior cruciate ligament damage kept Umar Sadiq out of action for most of last season after joining Real Sociedad from Almeria.
Super Eagles forward, Sadiq Umar Mesbah, is gaining attention from English Premier League side, Manchester United, and his former side, U.D. Almeria, Soccernet.ng reports.
Umar, 26, has featured for his club side, Real Sociedad, on thirteen occasions this season, but is yet to find the back of the net, and has just one assist to his name all season.
The former Roma forward joined Txuri-Urdin in the summer of 2022 as a replacement for Alexander Isak who moved on to Newcastle United.
The move didn’t turn out in the best way for the Nigerian, as he tore the ACL in his right knee a few weeks after making his debut for La Real, missing the remainder of the season.
Since his return, he has yet to find the back of the net, but it is believed that his former side, Almeria are interested in bringing him back to help him find form again.
According to Spanish outlet, OkFichajes, Almeria are looking to bring the striker back to where he’s had his best career stint so far, as he scored 43 goals and had 13 assists in 84 games for Rojiblancos La Unión Almeriensistas UDA Indálicos.
Manchester United are also keen on the services of the former Rangers striker to give the team squad depth up-front. The red-devils have only won a game in the Champions League this season and are sixth in the Premier League.
With Marcus Rashford out of form, Anthony Martial and Rasmus Hojlund have been battling fitness issues, leaving Erik Ten Haag no choice but to dive into the market in the winter transfer window.
The clubs interested in Umar will be keeping an eye out to check if he’ll be included in Jose Peseiro’s AFCON squad, to re-evaluate the worth of the transfer, considering he’ll miss at least a month of club football, should he get called up.
