Chelsea have had some decent performances this season but it just seems they have failed to hit top gear
Former Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi has stated that he believes French attacker Christopher Nkunku would be the game-changer for Chelsea this season, Soccernet reports.
Nkunku left RB Leipzig for Chelsea in the summer in a deal worth €60million. Following his move, the 26-year-old France international was supposed to become the main man at Stamford Bridge. He showed signs of what he could do in preseason, but he sustained an injury just before the season started.
This season, Chelsea have shown promise and looks like a well-tutored team. However, the results have not gone their way.
Former Nigeria star Mikel, who spent most of his career at Chelsea, has stated that he was impressed with Nkunku during pre-season. And he believes the former PSG star will be the last piece that Mauricio Pochettino needs to complete the jigsaw puzzle at Stamford Bridge.
“Looking at the way we played in pre-season, Nkunku was the guy who was making everything happen,” Obi said per Vibe with five.
“But he got injured, and now, we’ve been struggling with who is gonna create chances for us. I can’t wait to have him back.”
Nkunku has returned to training after missing the last few months. He could return to action this weekend when Chelsea play Newcastle United.
