The two Nigerian forwards have been causing damage to defences in Italy and Germany, and it could be time to take their trade to England
Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has urged Premier League clubs to keep an eye on the impressive performance of Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen needs no introduction, having guided Napoli to a first Scudetto title in over three decades last season. The 24-year-old striker is already on the wishlist of half of the Premier League’s wealthiest clubs.
It is Boniface who is warming his way into the hearts of many in Europe at the moment.
Having made the switch from Belgian Jupiler League club Union St Gillaloise earlier this year, Boniface has already made a significant impact, notching seven goals in ten matches and securing the prestigious Rookie Player of the Month award twice.
Sturridge’s appraisal of Osimhen and Boniface’s potential came during a conversation with Sky Sports, where he highlighted the Nigerian stars alongside PSG’s Kylian Mbappe and Guinean forward Guirassy as players deserving attention from top-flight English clubs.
Responding to a question from former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, Sturridge affirmed, “Mbappe is the No.1! Victor Osimhen is probably the next one; we’ve seen what he can do, the goals he scores, the pace, the tenacity, and the finishing. I very much like him.
“But [Serhou] Guirassy is second in the scoring charts now in Germany behind [Harry] Kane, [Victor] Boniface at Leverkusen, [Maximilian] Beier who is playing in Germany as well.”
Meanwhile, Boniface has once again been nominated for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award, marking his third consecutive nomination.
With a goal and an assist in three league appearances for Leverkusen, the 22-year-old Super Eagles sensation finds himself in contention for the award alongside RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons and Mainz’s Brajan Gruda.
The winner will be determined by a fan vote and select Bundesliga experts.
