Chuba Akpom: Two Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Nigerian attacker

Akpom has been superb for Ajax in recent weeks, and he is already attracting interest from the Premier League

Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Fulham are keeping tabs on Nigerian attacker Chuba Akpom following his recent brilliant displays for Ajax, Soccernet.ng reports.

Akpom was the best player in the English Championship last season after an outstanding return of 28 goals and two assists in 40 appearances.

Following his superb season, Akpom left for Ajax in the summer in a deal worth $14million. Akpom’s arrival coincided with  Maurice Steijn’s reign as coach. Still, he was unable to break into the first team even though he was handed the club’s iconic number 10 jersey.

However, Steijn was sacked following a run of poor results. Van’t Schip was then appointed as Ajax’s boss in October.

Since Schip took over as Ajax boss, the club’s fortunes have improved. The club has lost just once in their last five games. Akpom has also sparked to life, scoring five goals in his last five games. He also got his first start for the club over the weekend in their 5-0 bashing of Vitesse.

Following his superb displays, Akpom has attracted interest from the Premier League, with Crystal Palace and Fulham already enquiring about him per Teamtalk.

Despite these interests, it is unlikely that Akpom will leave Ajax this winter. However, if he continues with his great performances, he could be on his way out of the club if Ajax gets a decent offer next summer.
