Actual situation: Why Victor Osimhen took a leave of absence from Napoli

Victor Osimhen has been out of action since picking up an injury during Nigeria’s international friendly tie against Saudi Arabia

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has taken a leave of absence from Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis, and the reason behind this decision has been revealed, Soccernet.ng reports.

Questions arose about why Osimhen, who is currently recovering from an injury sustained during Nigeria’s international friendly game against Mozambique, would leave Naples.

Initially, it was reported that he went to Nigeria to attend to “personal issues.” However, recent reports from Italy shed light on the true reason for his leave.

It appears that Osimhen returned home to Nigeria to address issues involving his brother-in-law.

The brother-in-law, identified as Osita Okolo, accused the 8th-ranked player in the 2023 Ballon d’Or of having his sister arrested instead of paying him a commission for a transfer deal in 2020.

Reports indicate that Osita Okolo was part of the team that negotiated Osimhen’s move from LOSC Lille to Napoli in 2020 and is now seeking compensation for his involvement in the deal.

This situation has placed Osimhen in a challenging position, prompting him to take a leave of absence from Napoli to address the issue while focusing on his recovery.

Local media reports suggest that Osimhen will return to Napoli on Friday. However, another source from Italy has mentioned that the return may not happen soon, as a physiotherapist has been enlisted to help Osimhen expedite his recovery.
