Paul Onuachu moved to join Trabzonspor from Southamton FC on a season-long loan, and he has briskly adjusted to life in Turkey
Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, opened up about his remarkable goal-scoring streak, team spirit, and the competitive nature of the Super Lig following their 2-1 victory against Siltaş Yapı Pendikspor in the 7th week of the league, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian International joined the Trabzonspor on a season-long loan from Southampton and has briskly adjusted to a new life since his summer transfer window.
Onuachu slotted his third goal in three appearances against Pendikspor, and has established himself as a formidable forward in the league.
After the match, Onuachu praised the team’s performance, emphasizing that they began the game strongly and demonstrated excellent teamwork in the first half.
He noted that the dismissal of Batista Mendy with a red card in the second half didn’t deter them; instead, they maintained their team spirit and secured three crucial points.
“The important thing is that we were able to display the team spirit that brought the victory and get the 3 points. I am very happy for my team,” he said, as quoted by Sozcu.
On the topic of his recent goal-scoring exploits, Onuachu admitted that he doesn’t closely track historical statistics but affirmed his commitment to Trabzonspor’s success.
The tall Nigerian forward emphasized his dedication to making the fans happy and contributing positively to the team’s performance.
He added: “To be honest, I personally don’t follow history very much. But if you come to a team like Trabzonspor, of course you try to help your team, you try to make your fans happy. I am very happy with my individual performance for myself and my team. I have never set a goal goal in any team I have played for so far. I said of course I will always try to score. But I did not set a goal or number for myself in this regard. I will be targeted and focused, match by match.”
Speaking about the competitive nature of the Super Lig, Onuachu acknowledged its difficulty and strength. He pointed out that every team in the league, including Siltaş Yapı Pendikspor, possesses the capability to defeat any opponent.
“If you look at the team we play today, you can see how well they played even though they were in the league last year. Every team in this league is capable of beating every team. You can understand this from the performance of our opponent today. We will fight in every match and respect every opponent,” he revealed.
The Burgundy Blues are set to travel to Yeni Adana Stadium in less than five days to tackle Adana Demispor, Onuachu will be aiming to build on his impressive run.
