Mikel Obi endorses Nigerian forward as Chelsea’s ideal striker

Mikel Obi left Chelsea in 2017 after spending 11 years at the Stamford Bridge, and has endorsed Nigerian striker as ideal signing for the London club

Former Super Eagles star, Mikel Obi, has suggested that Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen would be the perfect striker for his former club, Chelsea FC, Soccernet.ng reports.

During a podcast on “The Obi One Podcast,” the former Stoke City midfielder predicted that the 24-year-old goal-scorer could thrive in the English Premier League, scoring plenty of goals.

Osimhen has been linked with a move away from Napoli following a controversial video posted on the club’s TikTok account, which led to a strained relationship.

Chelsea, the 2016-17 Premier League champions, have emerged as one of the leading suitors for Osimhen, as they hope he can follow in the footsteps of his idol, Didier Drogba.

Mikel, now 36 years old, expressed his hope that Osimhen joins Chelsea, despite reported interest from Manchester United.

“I think when I look back at him a few years ago, but now, watching him last season and watching him this season, I would say definitely.

“He would come into the Premier League and slot right in. He will get you goals, he will run behind defenders, he will stretch the team, and I think that’s what probably a lot of the teams now in the Premier League are looking for; a striker who wants to run behind the defenders because then it helps the team,” Mikel said.

While the transfer situation remains uncertain, with no comments from Osimhen’s camp or Napoli, Chelsea and Manchester United continue to be linked with the talented Nigerian striker.

Meanwhile, Napoli might need to consider selling him to avoid losing him on a free transfer or for a reduced fee.
