Ligue 1’s fastest players: Super Eagles stars Simon, Moffi, outshine PSG forward Kylian Mbappe

The Nigerian internationals have been tearing down defences in the French top flight with their searing pace

Super Eagles stars Moses Simon and Terem Moffi have been named among the ten fastest players in Ligue 1, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to the official Ligue 1 website, Nantes winger Simon is the third-fastest player in the French Division.

The Nigerian forward has recorded a top speed of 35.97 km/h this season, putting him behind only Marseilles’ Jonathan Clauss and Clermont Foot left-back Andy Pelmard.

Simon shares the third position with Folarin Balogun of AS Monaco and former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Balogun was eligible to play for Nigeria until last year when he decided to feature internationally for the United States.

OGC Nice star Moffi makes the top ten list at number 10 with a speed of 35.89 km/h.

The former FC Lorient star is only a fraction slower than sixth-place Abdoul Kader Bamba of FC Nantes and Brest defender Kenny Lala in seventh.

Another player with Nigerian blood on the roster is Strasbourg forward Emanuel Emegha, who shares the eighth position with Paris Saint German’s Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi.

Twenty-year-old Emegha, a Dutch youth international, was born in the Netherlands to a Togolese father and a Nigerian mother.

Strangely, PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe is not among the top ten fastest players in Ligue.

Usually blessed with unmatched speed, Mbappé currently sits in 17th place, with a top speed of 35.67 km/h.

Top speed this season in Ligue 1 Uber Eats:

1. Andy Pelmard (CF63): 36.14 km/h
2. Jonathan Clauss (OM): 36.11 km/h
3. Moses Simon (FC Nantes): 35.97 km/h
— Folarin Balogun (AS Monaco): 35.97 km/h
— Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (OM): 35.97 km/h
6. Abdoul Kader Bamba (FC Nantes): 35.95 km/h
7. Kenny Lala (SB29): 35.94 km/h
8. Achraf Hakimi (PSG): 35.90 km/h
