“I was shocked” – Super Eagles striker Osimhen reveals the toughest-ever defender he’s faced

Napoli signed Osimhen from LOSC Lille in 2020 after a stellar season with the French side, scoring thirteen goals in twenty-five starts.

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has revealed the toughest-ever defender he’s played against so far in his career, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old won the Capocannoniere award after scoring twenty-six goals for Gli Azzuri in the league last term, earning Ballon d’Or and FIFA Best Player award nominations after a stellar season.

The Nigerian mentioned Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Romero as the toughest ever defender he’s faced in his career. The pair faced themselves during the Argentine’s time in the Italian Serie A before he moved on to North London.

In the 2020/2021 season, Romero won the best defender award in Serie A after representing Atalanta in thirty-one games that season, and has been named as the toughest defender Osimhen has faced.

The Super Eagles striker highlighted that the strength, speed and intensity of the 25-year-old Argentine defender made him stand out amongst all the other defenders he’s played against.

“Cristian Romero is the most difficult defender I have faced. The first time we met, I was impressed by his speed. I experienced very, very intense duels against him. I was shocked,” Osimhen mentioned in quotes revealed by TV Play official.

Romero has been rock solid for Ange Postecoglu’s Spurs this season, conceding nine goals in ten games as his side remain top of the English Premier League

Osimhen’s praise for the World Cup winner will certainly come as an encouragement for the defender as he looks to defy the odds to win a trophy with Tottenham.
