Italian champions Napoli continued to plod on without their star Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as they defeated FC Union Berlin 1-0 at the Olympiastadion in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, Soccernet.ng reports.
Giacomo Raspadori scored with an assist from playmaker Kvicha Kvaratskhelia on 65 minutes, as they broke the hearts of the Iron Ones, for the second time at home. Union had lost against Braga, a late 3-2 defeat that left the home fans deflated for their first-ever Champions League home game.
While Union hoped that tonight’s result would be better due to the absence of the visitor’s potent Nigerian striker from an injury he picked up during the international break, Napoli showed that they had the experience to battle on. And the visitors got the win they needed inside the expansive stadium despite the unending support and singing from the Eiserners.
The result left Union rooted to the bottom of the table without a point in three matches, while Napoli moved second behind Real Madrid who defeated Braga 2-1 in the other Group C game.
