The Nigeria striker did not play the entire game, but he had a very good performance
Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka came off the bench to help Brentford to an outstanding 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Soccernet reports.
The Bees traveled to London to trade tackles with Chelsea in their 10th Premier League game of the season. The Blues were on a four-game unbeaten run, and they were slight favourites to win the tie in front of their home fans.
Brentford boss Frank Thomas opted to start Onyeka from the bench. He opted for a three-man midfield, flanked by two wingbacks.
Chelsea started the game well, but Brighton carved out some early chances from themselves, with an opportunity falling to Bryan Mbuemo. However, nothing concrete materialised from it. The Blues dominated the play for most of the first half and registered ten goal attempts. Still, they were unable to break them until halftime.
Chelsea began the second half with a similar level of intensity, but they got pegged back 13 minutes in, against the run of play via a goal from Ethan Pinnock.
After scoring, the Bees sat back to wait for Chelsea to attack them. They kept their defence solid and limited the Blues’ touches in the box.
Coach Frank introduced Onyeka into the game in the 63rd minute to shore up the midfield and add some cover to the Brentford backline.
The Nigerian midfielder put up a solid display. He had eight touches and three clearances. Albeit he gave two fouls, Onyeka chased down every ball on the pitch and worked tirelessly to make sure Chelsea did not equalize.
Just seconds before the end of the game, Mbuemo scored the second goal for Brentford to seal the 2-0 win for the Bees.
