The 2023 AFCON draws will take place on Thursday in Cote d’Ivoire, and Mikel Obi will be part of the event
Retired Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi had trolled his former Chelsea teammates Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba for not inviting him to Cote d’Ivoire when they were playing together, Soccernet reports.
The draws for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will take place on Thursday in Cote d’Ivoire, and Mikel will be part of the event.
The former Chelsea star shared a video of his journey to Cote d’Ivoire. When he got to the country, he showed the beautiful scenery of the country and also trolled his former teammates Kalou and Didier.
He jokingly accused them of not inviting him to their country because they were ‘stingy’.
Mikel is just one of the many retired players who will be at the AFCON draws. Former Zambia international Rainford Kalaba, who inspired his county to victory in 2012, will also be there. Mikel himself was in the team that won Nigeria’s third AFCON title in 2013.
Nigeria are in pot two alongside Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and DR Congo. So there is a possibility of having Cote d’Ivoire and Zambia in the same group. The event will take place in the capital, Abidjan.
