West Brom boss Corberan shares update on Maja after injury scare at Bristol City

West Brom boss, Carlos Corberan spoke briefly of Josh Maja’s suspected ankle injury after the Nigerian lingered off in pain last night.

Super Eagles striker Josh Maja was taken off just minutes after coming on as a substitute in West Brom’s goalless draw against Bristol City in an EFL Championship game on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

West Brom coach Carlos Coberan introduced the Nigerian into the game in the 66th minute in an attempt to turn the game in his side’s favour as they were desperately in search of a goal to get the lead.

However, he was helped off the pitch in the dying minutes of the game after clashing with Kal Naismith. Naismith’s challenge on Maja could have possibly led to a penalty which would have changed the outcome of the game, but instead, it was waved off by the referee and Maja was left injured.

After the game, Corberan mentioned that the team will assess the 24-year-old’s injury in the coming days, in what looked to be an ankle injury for the former Bordeaux man.

“Unfortunately we need to evaluate him[Maja] because he received a tackle in the box,” Corberan told Birmingham Mail.

Maja is teammates with fellow Nigerian, Semi Ajayi, and joined West Brom on a permanent deal in the summer after his contract with Ligue 2 side Bordeaux expired in June this year.

Because of this latest development, Maja is a serious doubt to travel with West Brom for their next game against Watford next Wednesday.

West Brom will look to get back to winning ways against Watford on Wednesday.
