Transfer: Chelsea still interested in Napoli’s Ballon d’Or nominee, Victor Osimhen

Premier League side, Chelsea maintains resilience and confidence in securing the services of Nigerian Striker, Victor Osimhen.

English Premier League side, Chelsea have not given up on luring Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, to the Stamford Bridge, despite their Premier League woes, Soccernet.ng reports.

Four games into the Premier League season, and £947.6m spent in the past year, the Blues haven’t made any notable progress. The team that has taken almost a billion euros to build and doesn’t look worthy of the price tag on paper, neither are they producing results worth the price on the pitch.

They’ve won just a game in the league so far this season, scoring a paltry five goals. The Blues are once again languishing in mid-table, though the early stages of the campaign mean week-to-week, there are chances for giant leaps and just one win could propel them up the table.

Creating chances however isn’t the issue for Chelsea, rather, converting the chances created is where the problem is, and with injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, they are thin on defensive options as well.

The Blues splashed money to get Nikolas Jackson from Villareal, and Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. An injury to Nkunku and with Jackson not yet in form, the Blues are running out of patience and are willing to do all it takes to land Napoli’s Ballon d’Or nominee, Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea were interested in bringing Osimhen to the Stamford Bridge before the last transfer window slammed shut, but a move couldn’t materialize because of the hefty price tag slammed on the player by the Napoli hierarchy.

For Chelsea to land Osimhen, however, will not be easy, as Napoli’s owner, Aurelio De Laurentis is much more keen on renewing Osimhen’s contract which expires in 2025. According to Football London, for Chelsea to get a hold of the Nigerian, they will need to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Osimhen scored twenty-six goals in the league last season, a feat that no one in a Chelsea jersey has achieved in the past decade.
