‘I’ll walk from Munich to Belgium for this player’ – Bayern Munich legend on Super Eagles’ Victor Boniface

Victor Boniface has had an impressive start to his career for Bayer Leverkusen, registering 8 goals and 3 assists in 7 appearances

Ex-Germany and Bayern Munich midfielder Lothar Matthaus has revealed that if he had the chance he would have signed newly capped Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface for his former club, Soccernet.ng reports.

Boniface has been a revelation for Bayer Leverkusen since completing a summer move to the club from Belgian side Royale Saint-Gilliose, making 11 goals contributions in his first 7 appearances in all competitions.

In 5 Bundesliga games, Boniface has registered 6 goals and 2 assists to help Leverkusen sit joint top with champions Bayern Munich at the top of the table.

He also contributed a goal to the Die Werkself 8-0 demolition of Teutonia Ottensen in the German Cup, providing a goal and an assist in their 4-0 rout of Swedish side BK Hacken in their Europa League opener last Thursday.

As a reward for his impressive start to his career in Germany, Boniface was awarded both the Bundesliga Player and Rookie of the Month for August.

Following his good start for Leverkusen, former Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Cup winner, Lothar Matthaus, has revealed that he wasn’t surprised by the Nigerian forward brilliant early-season form and that it was unbelievable to him that he took a while before Boniface caught the attention of a German club.

It was only through the games between Union Berlin and Leverkusen in the Europa League against Royale Union Saint-Gilliose that the name Boniface gained attention in Germany.

Matthaus congratulated Leverkusen’s scouting department for a good job done with the signing of the Nigerian forward for a decent fee of £20 million and also revealed that he would have signed the player for his former club if he had the chance.
