‘Even if Onuachu returned’–Arokodare expresses joy over Genk signing during winter transfer

KRC Genk forward, Toluwalase Arokodare, has expressed his delight at signing for the Belgian team during the winter transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian star made the move to the Cegeka Arena as a replacement for now-Southampton player, Paul Onuachu, in January for a fee of approximately €5 million.

Arokodare, who recently scored a late equalizer against Anderlechtrecently scored a late equalizer against Anderlecht, shared his happiness at seeing Onuachu possibly return to the club and reflected on his own decision to join Racing Genk earlier in the year.

Onuachu secured his move to the English Premier League earlier this year, departing for Saint Mary’s Stadium in January for around €18 million.

Genk filled the void left by Onuachu by acquiring his compatriot, Arokodare, who had impressed with his physicality and ability to break through opponents’ defenses on the field.

While Onuachu’s journey in the English league did not go as planned, leading to limited participation and Southampton’s relegation to the second tier, speculation arose during the summer transfer window about his potential return to the Jupiler Pro League, fueled by Coach Vanckren Wouters’ continued communication with the towering striker.

Speaking to the media, Arokodare expressed his contentment with signing for Genk and stated that even if his compatriot were to return, he would be welcomed by the fans.

“I’m glad I signed with Genk, even if Onuachu returned. That would be a good thing because right now I’m the only real striker at heart,” he said, as quoted by Voetbalnieuws.

Despite facing injury setbacks during his initial months with Genk, Arokodare has been steadily establishing himself in the new season campaign. He aims to continue his impressive form for the Smurfs as the season unfolds.
