New Ajax signing, Chuba Amechi Akpom made his debut for the club in their league game away from home, in a 0-0 draw.
Nigeria-eligible striker, and new Ajax Amsterdam signing, Chuba Akpom made his competitive debut for the club today in a goalless draw away to Fortuna Sittard, Soccernet.ng reports.
The striker joined the four-time UEFA Champions League winners this summer on a five-year deal, for a fee of €12.3m, potentially rising to €14.3m in add-ons, and is looking to be the next forward to write his name into the history books at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
The twenty-seven-year-old, whose most notable spell was with Middlesbrough, where he scored thirty-nine goals in seventy-nine appearances across two seasons in the English Championship, came on to replace Dutch striker, Brian Brobbey in the sixty-second minute of the game as Ajax looked to break the deadlock, but couldn’t find the spark.
Fortuna rued their missed chances at the other end, as a missed penalty in the earlier moments of the game by Tijjani Noslin proved costly, as they could have recorded a huge win at home to the Dutch record Champions.
Akpom, who is a graduate of Arsenal’s famous Hale End Academy hadn’t featured for the team in three previous appearances due to work permit issues but was finally able to get the feel of being a de Godenzonen for the first time today at the Fortuna Sittard Stadion.

Akpom played for England all through his youth years, but in 2019, he confirmed his interest in representing Nigeria at the international level, claiming he feels Nigerian, so it’s only just right to play for the country. He is, however, yet to be called up for Nigeria.
Ajax are currently undefeated in the league after three games, drawing two games, and recording just one win.
