Taiwo Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest in the 2022 Summer transfer window and has been giving the Reds a value of their money with an excellent performance.
Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, was reportedly linked with a move to Chelsea FC during the summer transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.
According to a previous report to a previous report, Chelsea made an inquiry about the former Union Berlin striker in the late hours of the summer transfer window to bolster their squad.
However, a source close to the Nigerian stated that the Super Eagles attacker was approached by Chelsea’s entourage but reportedly rejected the deal to respect Nottingham Forest’s contract agreement.
Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest during the 2022 summer transfer window from Union Berlin for a fee in the region of €20.5 million, and he signed a contract that ties him to the City Ground Stadium until 2027.
Despite his remarkable performance in the German Bundesliga, where he scored 15 goals, and a total of 20 goals in the 2021-22 season, Awoniyi found it challenging to adapt to a new life in England quickly.
Faced with injury woes, he struggled to establish himself as much as he would have liked. However, after recovering from his injury, he made a significant impact, disrupting Arsenal’s chances of winning the league title and helping Steve Cooper’s men avoid relegation.
Awoniyi has set a record for himself as the first Nigerian to score in seven consecutive games, including against Premier League top clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal.
This outstanding performance has attracted the interest of Chelsea, who are seeking a perfect solution for their attack, despite signing Nicolas Jackson from Spanish La Liga side Villarreal.
Currently, there are no further details regarding whether the two parties will open a transfer deal in the future.
However, Awoniyi is focused on maintaining his excellent performance as Jose Peseiro’s team prepares to face São Tomé and Príncipe in the Uyo stadium.
