Bundesliga 2: Forgotten Super Eagles star faces extended Braunschweig sideline due to shoulder injury

The former Nigeria international has been the most outstanding performer for Eintracht Braunschweig this term, but he may have run into a brick wall

Eintracht Braunschweig’s star striker, Anthony Ujah may be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a shoulder injury sustained in their recent match against Nuremberg, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ujah has been instrumental in Eintracht Braunschweig’s recent unbeaten streak, but the team may miss their key man in the coming weeks, according to reports from Germany.

The former Super Eagles striker’s impact on Eintracht Braunschweig’s performance this season cannot be overstated.

His goals secured a 1-0 victory against FC Schalke 04 and a crucial 1-1 draw against FC St. Pauli in the team’s third consecutive home game.

In the latest nail-biter, Eintracht managed to salvage a 2-2 draw against Nuremberg thanks to Ujah’s brace, but the 32-year-old’s unfortunate injury dampened the celebration.

The incident occurred deep into injury time when Eintracht attempted a final push to secure victory.

However, Nuremberg’s goalkeeper, Christian Mathenia, aggressively cleared the ball, colliding with Ujah in the process. The immediate aftermath showed that Ujah had suffered a significant shoulder injury.

In a post-match statement, Ujah expressed his concerns, saying, “It doesn’t look good.”

Further medical examinations are scheduled, but the outlook is uncertain. Ujah stated, “We’re taking pictures; I hope it’s not that bad.”

The preliminary reports from “Sky” and “NDR” (as per Liga-Zwei) suggest a possible shoulder joint sprain. If confirmed, this injury could prematurely end Ujah’s action on the pitch this year until 2024.

The potential long-term absence of the seasoned center forward would be a significant setback for Eintracht Braunschweig.

Ujah has played a pivotal role, contributing three out of five goals scored by the team and providing an assist, directly influencing 80 percent of their goals. Ujah also secured Braunschweig’s sole goal in the DFB Cup despite a 3-1 defeat against Schalke 04.

With Luc Ihorst recovering from a prolonged injury, Ujah’s absence would leave a void in the classic number nine position. While Kaan Caliskaner and Florian Krüger are potential options, they may not be ideal replacements.

The prospect of scouting for clubless professionals becomes a pressing concern if Ujah faces an extended recovery period.

Eintracht Braunschweig are second from bottom on the Bundesliga 2 league table with five points from seven games.
