Bayer Leverkusen includes Super Eagles striker in Europa League squad

The German League leaders, Bayer Leverkusen have released their official squad list for their Europa League campaign

Super Eagles striker, Victor Okoh Boniface has been included in Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s Europa League campaign squad, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former Union SG attacker has been leading the line superbly for Die Werkself, scoring five goals and assisting two in five starts for the club, and has left Xabi Alonso no choice but to include him in team’s squad for the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League campaign.

The twenty-three-year-old striker was the joint-highest goalscorer in the previous edition of the competition, alongside Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, all tied on six goals, in an impressive run with his former club.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen have been in fine form so far this season, scoring twenty-five goals in six games, and conceding just five.

They are also unbeaten in all competitions and are currently top of the German Bundesliga with three wins and a draw from four games.

Leverkusen have been drawn into the UEFA Europa League’s Group H, where they will take on Häcken, Molde, and Qarabag FK.

Alonso’s men will take on Häcken on Thursday at the Bay Arena to kick off their Europa League campaign with the aim of going a step further after reaching the semi-finals of the tournament last term.

Patrik Schick, Noah Mbamba and Arthur will miss the game due to injuries, meanwhile, Josip Stanišić and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are doubts as they face a race against time to be fit, but Nigeria’s Boniface will be aiming to solidify his trust under his Spaniard boss by firing his team to victory.
