Kelechi Iheanacho opened his account of the season in Leicester City’s 2-0 victory at Burton Albion in the first round of the Carabao Cup last Wednesday
Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca has revealed that the club wants to sit down with Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho regarding his current situation at the King Power Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports
The 26-year-old Nigerian striker has been stellar for the club since he joined from Manchester City in the summer of 2017, forming an impeccable partnership with legendary Jamie Vardy.
He was instrumental in Leicester City’s surprising run to the Emirates FA Cup glory in 2021, scoring four goals in six appearances, his notable performance came in the quarter-finals, where he netted two goals against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United.
Iheanacho was named Leicester City Player of the Season last campaign, he made 13 goals contributions but wasn’t enough to keep them in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old has only got a year left on his current deal and has been linked with a move back to the Premier League with Everton or Nottingham Forest.
In response to questions regarding the future of the ‘Seniorman’ Italian head coach Enzo Maresca provided a series of comments which point toward the position of the club, himself, and the player.
This is one of the things on the table. It’s one of the things we need to discuss with the player. Most of the time we think about the club but we need to see the desire of the player…player, club, and manager. It’s one of the things we need to do soon to clarify the situation, Maresca was quoted by Foxes of Leicester
He also emphasized that Leicester want to discuss extending the player’s stay at the club. However, to Maresca, the situation remains unclear as the Iheanacho has yet to show a desire to stay with the Foxes or find the exit door.
Kele played against Coventry, very good. He played the other day, goal, assist. It’s one of the things I said from day one that to realise something important…but we also need to know the desire of the player.
Iheanacho already has one goal and an assist for Leicester City this new season and will aim to continue his run for them when they host Cardiff City in their next game on 19 August.
