Premier League: Everton’s woes continue in Iwobi’s absence

The Toffees lost their first two games of the season, but they could not stop their rotten run against Wolves

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi was not in action for Everton in their 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Goodison Park, Soccernet reports.

Iwobi sustained an injury last week in Everton’s 4-0 loss to Aston Villa. The 27-year-old had to be subbed off in the 51st minute after he sustained a hamstring injury.

Following his injury, Iwobi will spend at least two weeks on the sidelines. He was not listed for the Toffees’ squad for their home fixture against Wolves.

It was a tough encounter at Goodison Park as the game could have swung anywhere. Wolves saw more of the possession, but Everton had more attempts at goal.

The Toffees thought they had finally gone in front in the 78th minute, but Abdoulaye Doucoure’s goal was ruled out for offside.

Unfortunately for Everton, they were punished at the death via Sasa Kalajdzic, who showed his aerial prowess by jumping highest to meet a cross in the box and sent a well-placed header into the net.

It eventually ended 1-0 at Goodison Park. The loss ensured that Everton remained without a point from their first three Premier League games.

Sean Dyche’s have games between Doncaster and Sheffield United coming up in the next seven days, but Iwobi will not be able to return for those fixtures because of his injury.

However, Everton would hope that the former Arsenal man returns to full fitness after the international break.
