Michelle Alozie’s mismatched boots: How Super Falcons defender draws inspiration from ex-Manchester City forward

Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has revealed the fascinating inspiration behind her distinct choice of wearing mismatched boots during matches.

The American-born footballer has carved a unique niche for herself on the pitch, echoing the style of her football idol, Italy’s enigmatic forward, Mario Balotelli.

Alozie’s exceptional performance has undoubtedly contributed to Nigeria’s impressive run in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she has been a standout player, propelling the Super Falcons to the tournament’s second round.

However, it’s not just her skills that have caught the eye of the fans, her distinctive fashion statement on the field has garnered attention as well.

The 26-year-old defender recently unveiled the heartwarming connection between her choice of footwear and her favourite footballer.

Renowned for his on-field charisma and unconventional style, Balotelli’s flair extends beyond his playing abilities to his penchant for wearing vibrantly coloured cleats during matches.

Alozie, speaking at a post-match press conference following Nigeria’s goalless draw against Ireland, shared the endearing story behind her unique footwear choices.

“My favourite player of all time is Mario Balotelli, and he released a cleat with Puma in 2014,” Alozie revealed with a smile. “I think it was pink and blue, and so since my college days, I have just always switched up my cleats, just to be fun and give him some shout outs.”

Although, Balotelli donned the different coloured boots in 2014 as a result of the new Puma campaign known as the Puma ‘Tricks’ boots for the World Cup tournament, Alozie made an intentional approach to the style which stood her out.

Balotelli also sporting the boot as at then revealed his excitement wearing the boot at the world cup tournament.

“I have to be honest, the first time I saw the boots, I thought the Puma guy was mad. But when I realised he wasn’t, I was already excited,” he said.

At the World Cup, Italy did not have a good World Cup campaign as they were knocked out at the expense of Uruguay, who made them finish third in Group D.
